Dubai World and the future of investment from the Middle East
Here at DubaiBeat we have a saying: "DubaiBeat is related to Dubai, as much as Boston Consulting Group is related to Boston." Nevertheless, while we were on a short holiday, we were as shocked as you about the Dubai World story and how the western media treated it.
We don't see any meaningless change in the way Middle East private equity and venture capital as a whole would approach deals in the future - just think of all those big money in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi and the rest of the Middle East. (Even the Istithmar World, the private equity arm of Dubai World, which has made investments in Cirque du Soleil, SPMG and standard Chartered Bank, seems to not be affected in the restructuring). We do, however, see the need for more on-the-ground reporting on investment opportunities in and from the Middle East and are happy to continue our coverage from our beloved city - Dubai.
