|| World's Richest-Ever Marathon Held in Dubai

It is not as old as the Boston Marathon, the world's oldest annual marathon dating back to 1897, or as large as the New York City Marathon with 37,000 finishers, but Dubai Marathon, held today, was the world’s richest marathon of all time with $1 million in prize money.

Another $1 million was also on offer to any male or female athlete who could break the current world record. But the Ethiopian double Olympic champion and the current marathon world record holder, Haile Gebrselassie, was short only 27 seconds to get that million dollar bonus. His time of 2:04:53 was recorded as the second fastest time in the history of marathon.

There are hundreds of marathon races in different cities of the world. Did you know we even have a Great Wall of China Marathon?
